Science in the Gardens – 6 September
Jacob Ballas Children’s Garden

Mother Nature was kind on 6 September. Despite the heavy torrents experienced during the previous days, the Sun managed to hang itself high in the sky during Science in the Gardens. The warm and sultry weather lured more than 1000 visitors to the event. Consisting of science shows, workshops and roving balloon artist, Science in the Gardens provided visiting families hours of edutainment, enriching both parents and children on the wonders of science and nature.

The children had plenty of fun scurrying round the garden as they move from workshops to workshop learning to make simple crafts such as an ant model, bee and pencil toppers and even their very own dried leaf bookmark. Information panels with scientific contents covering nature sciences had also been placed around the different locations in the garden. Armed with the booklets obtained from the information counter, visitors get to filled up a mini quiz in the booklet in exchange for a souvenir to reward their efforts in learning science!

The science show during the event was conducted by John Eix, an acclaimed science educator from Canada. John wowed the audience when he performed demonstrations on gases, the invisible stuff that we can’t see around us. Some of his amazing demonstrations included the “Magic Test Tube”, “The Big Sucker” and “The Pressure Tower”.
